The Second New Year

The Second New Year

The unofficial beginning of a new wardrobe season.

There’s something about September that feels more like a new beginning than January ever does.

We return to work, routines find their way back into our days and suddenly getting dressed has a purpose again. The mornings are cooler, the calendar is fuller and the wardrobe starts shifting somewhere between what we wore all summer and what we’re not quite ready to wear for fall.

It’s the second new year. And with it comes the return of the everyday uniform.

START WITH THE BLAZER

If September had a uniform, the blazer would probably be part of it.

We’re wearing the Blossom Blazer with a simple tee or tank, blue jeans and loafers. Add a larger bag, a belt and sunglasses while the September sun is still around.

Later, when mornings get colder, the same formula works with a thin knit underneath.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Some mornings don’t need another decision.

Wear the Keep It Simple Set together and you’re done. Or separate it: the chocolate shirt with blue denim and brown loafers, the pants with an oversized knit and sneakers.

The kind of pieces that earn their place in the weekday rotation because you already know what to do with them.

FROM THE FIRST MEETING TO WHATEVER COMES AFTER

The return to routine also means the return of weekday plans.

The Matcha to Martini Dress works under an oversized blazer with loafers or boots and a structured bag during the day. When work turns into dinner, lose the blazer, change the shoes or simply leave it exactly as it is.

Because getting back to routine doesn’t mean going straight home.

THE SEPTEMBER WARDROBE

Maybe that’s the best part about the second new year.

Not starting your wardrobe over, but rediscovering the pieces that make getting dressed feel good again — and finding a few new ways to wear them.
